January 20th
Alex Leger. ‘Life on the Licence Fee’  Challenges and change at the BBC. Alex will talk about his work on Blue Peter, including the episode with Lulu the baby elephant running amok in the studio.
February 17th
Roger Kendall.  Roger became a fire fighter in te London fire brigade in 1978, at the age of 20.  He attended some of London’s most dangerous missions including the Kings Cross fire, the bomb at Harrods and the Marchioness disaster.
March 17th
Stephanie Austin.  Stephanie is a local author and has written many fiction books on murder & mystery set in and around Dartmoor, featuring an antiques dealer who solves murders in Ashburton.
April 14th
Mike Hayward.  Mike has a growing reputation as a marine and portrait artist , with a particular emphasis on rough and lively seas.  His talk will be ‘The Mirror, the Invention That Changed Our Perception of Self’.
May 19th
Stephen Powles.  Stephen is a renowned wildlife expert and photographer.  Since retiring from his Veterinary career in mid Devon in 2019, he has concentrated his interests in wildlife photography and conservation.  Including elusive Otters.
June 16th
Paul Rendell.  Also known as “Dartmoor Paul”.  Paul has long been fascinated with Dartmoor, its history, myths, wildlife and archaeology.  Paul leads guided walks and as a local historian, writes and edits Dartmoor books and magazines.  Paul’s talk will be on films associated with Dartmoor.
July 21st
Simon Dell.  An ex policeman, Simon regularly guides visitors around one of his favourite haunts of Lundy Island.  He is also a Dartmoor National Park guide.  Simon has published books policing, Dartmoor Prison and in 1997 was awarded an MBE forr his work with the Dartmoor Rescue group and Tavistock community.
August 18th
Billy ‘Scratch’ Hitchens.  At the age of just 14, Billy played hooky from school and ran away to sea.  He sailed around the world five times and eventually settled back in his home town of Salcombe.  Scratch will talk about his personal life of adventure and provide a vivid account of recent maritime history.
September 15th
Jacqui Felix-Mitchell.  Jacqui will talk about her change from PR professional to Garden Designer, which has has become her passion, with her experiences of talking on BBC Gardners World and being seen at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
October 25th
Chris Robinson.  Chris is an acknowledged expert on the history of Plymouth, providing talks and guided tours around the Barbican.  His latest book is ‘The History of Plympton’ and Chris will take us through this fascinating story.

Monthly meeting and speaker diary 2025
Our meetings are held at the Watermark, Erme Court in Ivybridge on the third Monday of each month (apart from Bank Holidays) starting at 2.00pm. We begin with opening comments from our Chairman followed by group leaders notices.  We then have a talk from a speaker, the subjects are many and varied (details below).

The 2024 members only Christmas Party will take place on Monday December 16th in the Watermark starting at 2.00pm.  We will have a table quiz, our choir singing carols, a Christmas raffle, food and more……
